Meet our founder:

Matt Therrien is the founder, beekeeper, and woodworker behind The Bountiful Bee Company. He stumbled across beekeeping in pursuit of a simpler lifestyle and quickly realized his passion for woodworking naturally complimented beekeeping. The Layens format of equipment he fell in love with is not commercially available and why he began manufacturing Layens equipment for like minded, treatment and feeding free, beekeepers. His 10 year vision is to be the premier supplier of Layens bee keeping equipment, bees, honey, and bee products in southwest Virginia

FAQ:

Will Langstroth frames fit in Layens hives?

Langstroth and Layens equipment is not directly compatible. You can cut Langstroth frames and transition Langstroth to Layens.

How do you expand the bee hive throughout the year?

Simply add frames to the left or right of the colony to expand the nest.

What are your hives insulated with?

We insulate our hives with raw sheep's wool sourced from farmers in SWVA.

Can I put Layens frames in Langstroth hives?

Layens frames are not directly compatible with Langstroth hives. We offer plywood conversion kits to convert a double deep setup into a Layens starter hive. This is a temporary solution or ideal for making splits.

How do I move the hives once the bees are installed?

Horizontal Layens hives are not intended to be moved. Careful thought and consideration should be taken when placing your hives.
